“Epiphany-A Feast for the Eye”
South Broadway Christian Church at 23 Lincoln St. in Denver is inviting local artists to submit artwork to be presented at their third annual exhibit. All submissions should reflect this year’s theme which is “Epiphany-A Feast for the Eye”. Eligible media includes paintings, drawings, fine art prints, photography, sculptures, glass works, pottery, and textiles. Poetry will also be considered. Entries will be juried for quality, aesthetic appeal, content, and viewing suitability. To view a previous exhibit go to www.southbroadwaychristianchurch.org and click on Stations of the Cross.
Epiphany-What’s That? The Feast of the Epiphany is the climax of the Advent Season and the Twelve Days of Christmas, which are usually counted from the evening of December 25th until the morning of January 6th, which is the Twelfth Day. (This is not to be confused with the well-known twelve days of Christmas with the “partridge in a pear tree” theme although there is a symbolic connection between the two.) The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the birth of Christ and looks ahead to the mission of the church to the world in light of the Nativity. The “word” epiphany means a sudden manifestation of the essence or meaning of something; a perception of reality by means of intuition. It comes from the Greek word meaning to show or reveal.
South Broadway Christian Church has chosen to combine the Feast of the Epiphany with the meaning of the word to present an art experience filled with celebration and wonder. The art exhibit will open Christmas Eve, December 24, 2007 and continue for twelve days culminating with an open house/feast on the final day which will be Saturday, January 5, 2008. It will consist of “posts” each given a theme consistent with the meaning of the word epiphany. The posts will be: 1) revelation (revealing), 2) a moment of clarity, 3) hope, 4) expectation and awe, 5) the manifestation of God in man, 6) discovery, 7) divine inspiration, 8) realization, 9) enlightenment, 10) giving & generosity, 11) compassion, and 12) divine love. Artists will be invited to choose one (or more) of these themes and express it through his/her specific medium.
Submission Deadline: All artwork must be submitted no later than Saturday, December 15, 2007.
For further information call 303-722-4679 or email info@southbroadwaychristianchurch.org.
